Baja California, and particularly Ensenada, has sanitary protocols in place for the arrival of cruise ships, which could begin on 29 September, announced the Secretary of Sustainable Economy and Tourism (SEST), Mario Escobedo Carignan.
After a meeting between Mexican officials and Carnival executives, the state official praised the willingness of the shipping company for the responsible economic revival. Among the agreements taken, it was indicated that Carnival will start docking in Ensenada from September 29th of the present year, with an initial capacity of 70% of passengers, attending the protocols of International Health.
Likewise, the SEST will send a summary of the protocols applied at the destination, as well as the logos of the different seals that are used, so that they can be shared on the ship with the "cruise passengers".
"Prior to the arrival of the first ship with visitors, a visit by the shipping company's executives must be carried out to ensure that conditions are optimal for the arrival of the first cruise ship," said Escobedo Carignan.
In this regard, the Undersecretary of Economy and Tourism of the SEST, Rubén Roa Dueñas, indicated that Baja California has the protocols for the entire chain related to the sector, under the Clean&Safe-Safe Destination programme, with the "Safe Travels" distinctive, of the World Travel and Tourism Council. Carnival executives informed in a general way the protocols that are being implemented as a shipping company, after a month of being operating, and that its first cruise ship to arrive to Ensenada would be, tentatively, the "Miracle".
Subsequently, a new vessel will be added to the route, the "Carnival Radiance", both with an initial capacity of 70%, with a minimum vaccination protocol of 95% of its passengers, and 5% of children under 11 years of age without vaccination. It was reported that Baja California, in terms of vaccination, has a coverage of 75% of its population.
Although Carnival has its protocols in place, and will be sharing them with Ensenada, if the locality's regulations were stricter, they would adapt to the necessary requirements.
