Despite the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has hit thousands of companies hard globally, the technology business, and specifically the smartphone business, is still going strong.
This is thanks to the new launches we have seen in recent months, as well as the facilities that e-commerce offers.
And to give us an idea of who is who in the sale of mobile devices in Mexico, The Competitive Intelligence Unite has released its market share for the first quarter of 2020.
These are the main players in Mexico's smartphone market
In the undisputed first place we find Samsung, which is placed as the leader in sales in our country, with 35.1% of the total share. In second place and growing considerably is Motorola, which went from 15.6% to 17.1% in three months.
Huawei, despite its war with the US, has managed to stay in third place with 14 out of every 100 handsets in the market, losing only one percentage point. According to the consultancy, this downward trend may become more pronounced in the next reports if the situation with the neighbouring country does not improve.
In fourth place is Apple, with an 11.8% share in the January to March 2020 quarter; although it is worth noting that all of these sales are at the high end, as they have so far no devices in the mid-range or entry-level segments.

The good news for the telecoms sector is that The CIU estimate is that despite a predicted fall in Gross Domestic Product in 2020 of 9%, in the worst case scenario the loss for this sector will be 4,39% while in the most likely scenario so far, the contraction would be 1,97%, not bad for a year that will be marked by a pandemic.
